Reading Across the Universe

As those who follow my blog may have noticed, I have been absent for a bit. I apologize. Sometimes life gets in the way and certain things fall through the cracks. I looked for motivation to get things started back up. I found it thanks to a Book Bingo.

Book Bingo is one of my favorite things. First off, I like challenges. Make it look like a contest or a competition and I'm all-in. If you've never done it before, it's simple. There is a card with a different genre or category in each square. You read that particular kind of book. Easy, right? Yep. (Well, except if you're me and get anal retentive over your Bingo card and use color coding, numbered squares, & separate sheets of paper to keep better records.)

Second, I like to branch out on occasion. There are some genres I normally don't bother to read. I admit, I am a creature of habit when it comes to reading. Anyone who knows me knows I have a large affinity for juvenile fiction. I like stories about normal, everyday people who somehow get involved in unusual situations. (You have probably also figured out why I liked Hart to Hart. Those people could get involved in foreign espionage while going to the dry cleaners.)  It's why I love the Mr. Lemoncello and Book Scavenger books. But, part of being a responsible library worker is branching out from time to time and stepping out of my comfort zone. I need to be able to make suggestions if I'm asked by a patron. I may even find I like something that I may not have read otherwise.

"Donna, how does this tie into your blog?" you may ask. I shall tell you. I decided to use the Summer Reading Program kick-off date (June 10th) as a starting point. Whenever I cross off a square, I would use that as a post for my blog. I can also use some help. I am always up for suggestions for what to read. If you see a square and think, "I liked this and I bet Donna would, too," feel free to comment with a suggestion. 😊 I have already finished 3 books (mostly because I am dedicating at least two hours per night to reading while participating in the Summer Reading Program), so I hope to have my first SRP Bingo post up before the week is out. I would LOVE if y'all would follow along. If you come across other Book Bingo cards, share them. I can always use more. If you read a book because of my post, I would love to know what you think. Let's do this together! I would love the company as I read across the universe of books.
